Trail riding is a great way to enjoy horseback riding without owning a horse, but there are a few important things to know to stay safe and make the most of the trail riding experience:
1. Understand the Rules and Policies
Check age, weight, and experience requirements. Our trail riding stable has restrictions for safety.
2. Be Honest About Your Experience
Riders are usually grouped or paired with horses based on skill level. Be honest so you’re matched with the right horse and guide.
3. Arrive Early
Arriving 30 minutes early allows time for orientation, paperwork, fitting helmets, and meeting your horse.
4. Dress Appropriately
Wear closed-toe shoes with a slight heel if possible (like boots) or running shoes to trail ride.
Long pants help prevent chafing from the saddle while riding.
Avoid loose clothing that can get caught.
5. Listen to the Trail Guide
Follow instructions carefully, especially on how to mount, steer, and stop your horse.
Don’t attempt to break from the trail riding group.
6. Respect the Horse
Horses at our trail riding stables are trained for trail riding but still have personalities.
Stay calm, speak gently, and don’t make sudden movements or loud noises.
7. Stay in Line
Trail rides require single-file riding to maintain control and safety.
Don’t let your horse crowd or tailgate others.
8. Tipping
It’s common (though not mandatory) to tip your trail guide, especially for a good experience.
